Week 4 Challenge- My Dream Vacation

Hello Challenge Students and Welcome to Week 4 of remote learning.  Your teachers are so proud of how well you have adapted to this new way of learning.  Together we are navigating through new online platforms and this week, I’d like to explore a free app that is part of your Office 365 account.  Sway is a really cool way to put together a presentation for others to enjoy.  It is very easy to add pictures, texts, videos and links in a visually stunning way.

This week, I’d like you to login to your Office 365 account and experiment with all the options on Sway.  Here are some instructions that may be useful to get started.

1- Login to your Office 365 account and click on Sway– for me its in the bottom row, second icon.

Once you are in Sway, choose “New Document”.

Then add a title and click on add image.

A side bar will appear where you can search any topic- you can choose between pictures and/or videos. Make sure the Creative Commons Only box is ticked so that you are using media that you have permission to use.  You can drag any of the images to the left and it will insert itself to your Sway.

Click on the text box and you can add in text.  When you are ready to start your next slide, click on the plus sign.

When you are finished, you can click on the Play triangle near the top.  If you don’t like the layout, you can press the Remix button (under the play button) and Sway will show you other options.

I prefer the look of Vertical in the Styles but you might like Horizontal or Slides– explore to see what it looks like.

When you are done, click on Play to see your presentation.

Here is my first quick attempt at Sway.  When you click on the link, you will need to click on the Play icon on the top right to see the Sway presentation.  I chose My Dream Vacation as my topic.  While we are stuck at home during the Covid 19 pandemic, it’s a nice escape to plan a dream vacation.  You can use this topic or choose one that interests you.  Please share a link to your Sway presentation so that we can see your work.  This activity is completely optional.  If you have time to give it a try, then go for it. If not, no worries!

Have a wonderful week!

Epic!

Hello Challenge Class,

I sent out an email to your parents to invite them to create a free account for you on EPIC! This is a wonderful site to explore if you are looking for books to read or listen to.   There are a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts so there is something there for everyone.  This might be a good place to find resources if you are doing research for some of your assignments in class or you can research topics that interest you just for fun.

Enjoy!

What I did Recently-Dante-April 14, 2020

About everyday, our parents go outside to water a few plants that we have harvested not too long ago. So far we have grown 11 vegetables. We’re also growing mint, which I think is a little strange. My mom says it’s a “makeshift house perfume” and “magical cooking supply.” We also made “cola pots” which is a replacement for our normal pots, since we ran out of them.

Our sprouting onion

Guess what these plants are!

Vitus, my little brother, also “ordered” two cars: One made of Hexbug pieces, and another made of Lego. The Hexbug car was a little harder to build because it takes a lot of force to push in and take apart the pieces. The benefit was it is more rigid than the Lego one. The Lego car took a lot more parts, and the pieces were more easy to build, as easy as inserting a power plug. But it turned out to break every time I hit the walls too hard, so I put it on a “garage” to keep it safe.

The last thing I need to tell you is that everyday, we go outside to the church for riding bikes. We made a ramp for our bikes, so we feel like birds. It’s exciting when you go on the ramp. You should try it! The church also has a number of different places to explore, so I never get too bored. No matter how many times we go to the same place, it’s entertaining.

THE END

Week 3 Challenge!

Hey Everyone!

My apologies– I am not sure what happened as I thought I posted this on Monday but it was still in my drafts!  Thank you to the lovely mom who emailed me to check in to see if I had forgotten to post a new challenge this week.  Today’s challenge is a classic logic puzzle that puts your creative problem solving and deductive reasoning skills to the test.  Click on the link below to see if you can solve this riddle! Please let me know if you are successful.

I hope you all are well and enjoying your remote learning activities from your classroom teachers. I understand if you don’t have time to do these challenges and remind you again that these challenges are completely OPTIONAL.  Please take moment to create a new post just to say hello and let us know how you are :).  Thank you to Suri, Dante and Jenna for their posts and to Melodie for her post comments.  Has anyone else popped by our blog?!

Good Luck with the Challenge!  Stay Safe. Look for the positives. Wash your hands.

Much Love,

Ms. Tabata

Week 2 Challenge!

Hello Friends! I sure hope you enjoyed a wonderful Easter Long Weekend with your families!  How did your celebrations look? My kids are getting older but we still decorated some Easter eggs outside in the sunshine and I made them little baskets with Easter chocolates and treats.  Then I made them help us clean up the backyard a little 😉

This week I am posting another Escape Room Challenge and it’s a bit more difficult so try to maintain a growth mindset to help you persevere! I will admit, I am still trying to escape…so far, I have been unsuccessful but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you are able to use your creative problem solving and critical thinking skills to escape…if you do, please help me…I still haven’t figured out the lock combo!

Good Luck!!!

Next week, I will post a different kind of challenge and I will also post a link to Epic– a fantastic site that you can find and read books on a wide range of topics. If you are finding yourself bored at any time, Epic is a great place to look.  You can research topics that interest YOU!

Also, I would love to “see” what you are all up to so please start a new post and put up some pictures so we can all see what your are doing to keep yourself busy during this pandemic.  Have you learned any new skills?

Much Love,

Ms. Tabata

April 6-10 Weekly Challenge

Happy Monday, Panorama Challenge Class Friends!

How is everyone doing? I suspect many of you have just received your first week of remote learning plans from your teachers and I hope that you are settling into a new way of learning.  Although I will miss seeing you all on Monday afternoons, I am happy that we have this blog to maintain our connection and to offer you weekly challenges.  Please check our blog on Mondays to see your new weekly challenge!

** Please note that these weekly challenges are completely OPTIONAL.  This means that you can do them if you would like to but you are NOT required to do them.  Also, I want to stress that the activities your classroom teachers assign need to take PRIORITY over these optional challenges. **

I would love for each of you to create new posts to publish to our blog. You might create a post to let us know how you did on the weekly challenge or you might create a post letting us know something cool you have been up to.  If you find new websites or games that you think others might enjoy, create a post and add a link and/or pictures!

I am so excited to be posting this fun escape room challenge that will require you to use some creative and critical thinking skills! Don’t worry if you’re like me and have never read any of the Harry Potter books…I still managed to escape successfully.
