About Us

Hello! Welcome to our Class Blog. We are a group of 18 gifted students in grades 4 and 5 who meet weekly for an hour to be challenged, learn about our giftedness and to collaborate with other like-minded peers.  Our school is located in Coquitlam, BC Canada and has a student population of 450 students in grades K-5.  Coquitlam is a beautiful city to live, work and play in.  The name Coquitlam comes from the Coast Salish term meaning “red fish up the river”.  Our city has many lakes and rivers which support wild stocks of coho salmon as well as other salmon species.  Some of the classes at our school raise salmon through the first few stages of their life cycle and then release the salmon fry into local creeks as part of the Salmon Enhancement Program which aims to rebuild vulnerable salmon stocks.  We are also the Bear Sighting Capital of BC!  Bears are often spotted in our neighbourhoods and even on our school grounds. We have to learn to be bear aware!  Coquitlam has many parks and recreational facilities.  Some of our favourites are Lafarge Lake, Town Centre Park and soccer fields, Coquitlam Aquatic Centre, Port Moody Recreation Centre, Rocky Point Park, and Coquitlam Public Library.  Coquitlam has an oceanic climate that sees mild temperatures and sufficient precipitation– we have warm/dry summers and cool/wet winters.  Here are some pictures of our community:
